PFAS Filtration in Kittery, ME

PFAS are a family of man-made chemicals, including PFOA and PFOS, that do not break down easily and can build up in drinking water. In 2024 the EPA set its first enforceable national limits for several PFAS in public water. Some states set their own limits earlier.

Kittery, ME Whole House Water Filtration installs PFAS filtration in Kittery, ME homes using media with independent certification for PFOA and PFOS reduction. Look for NSF/ANSI 53 or NSF/ANSI 58 claims on the product data sheet. We use two main approaches:

• Granular activated carbon in a deep bed with long contact time
• Specialty ion exchange resin designed for PFAS

Contact time is everything with PFAS. A tank that works fine for chlorine taste can be far too small for PFAS reduction. We size by gallons per minute and plan a replacement schedule based on water use, because spent media can let PFAS pass through without any taste change to warn you.

Start with data. Your utility's water quality report may list PFAS results. If you are on a private well, a certified lab test is the right first step.
